Our Programs & Initiatives

  • Memory Moment & Forget-Me-Not Spotlight

    • Memory Moment is our monthly article reaching Effingham, Jasper, Shelby, Coles, Cumberland, Fayette, & Clay counties through our partnerships with local community newspapers.

      • Provides information and tips on caregiving and dementia

      • Past articles include wandering, caregiver support, and signs of dementia

    • Forget-Me-Not Spotlight highlights a particular resource related to dementia, aging, and caregiving found in our Forget-Me-Not Resource Center.

  • Community Education Series

    • EAAA partners with local public libraries to bring in-depth presentations from community professionals on topics related to dementia, aging, and caregiving

      • Past presentation topics include elder law, medication management, communication strategies for dementia caregiving, early detection/warning signs of dementia, healthy brain aging, and exploring long-term care.

  • Forget-Me-Not Resource Center

    • Located in the Effingham Public Library, Evans Public Library (Vandalia), Flora Public Library, Greenup Township Public Library, Mattoon Public Library, Newton Public Library, & Shelbyville Public Library, the Forget-Me-Not Resource Center provides educational materials such as books, videos, and kits available to the community free of charge. All items are specific to dementia, aging, brain health, and caregiving.

  • Forget-Me-Not Cafe, in partnership with Willowbrook Communities & Tuscan Hills Winery

    • EAAA helps provide support for the Forget-Me-Not Cafe. The Cafe is a purely social, non-judgmental gathering offering enrichment to the lives of those living with the challenges of dementia.

    • The Cafe meets once a month to enjoy lunch and entertainment. It is beneficial for individuals with early to middle stages of dementia and their spouse or caregiver

  • Friends in Rural Places: Dementia Friendly Community Initiative

    • Along with other concerned professionals and community members, EAAA has led the conversation in Effingham to become a dementia and aging friendly community. The goal of this initiative is to support people living with dementia and older adults to live a high quality life with meaning, purpose, and value. We are beginning with our Friends in Rural Places: Creating Dementia Friendly Businesses training.
